A Local's Guide to Midland, TX

Welcome to the tall city, otherwise known as Midland. In 2008, we saw the need for affordable housing for Midland families and sought to fill that gap. Since then, we've continued building relationships with the community that calls Midland home.

Our local team shared some of their favorite spots in the city and some need-to-knows if you're moving to the area. Keep reading to learn the ins and outs of living in Midland.

Coffee Shops

Coffee is a big part of the Betenbough Homes culture. We believe in its power to bring people together, and most of our team members start their day with a warm cup of joe. Their favorite shops to frequent include Black Rifle Coffee Company, Human Bean Coffee, CPL Ray's Coffee, and Mulberry Café. Our Midland team also loves Far West Coffee for its specialty drinks and breakfast sandwiches.

Restaurants

Food and fun are two of the things Midland does best. Stop by The Half Acre for a wide selection of West Texas' finest meats from a local cattle ranch.  Cork & Pig Tavern, a local favorite, serves up unique entrees and specialty cocktails. Enjoy dinner with a view at Café at the Gardens, where your meal pairs perfectly with the soothing sounds of their waterfall and colorful array of plants.

If you're a morning person, and even if you're not, give Juji's Kitchen a try, where breakfast is served all day. Craving pizza? Ray's Italian Bistro is the place to go! Other Midland favorites include Venezia Restaurant for a high-end dining experience and Cowboy Prime for upscale steaks.

Entertainment & Recreation

You'll find entertainment around every corner in Midland! Enjoy live performances by community members at the Yucca Theatre and live music and karaoke at the Destination Midland. Hop to your heart's content at Urban Air Trampoline Park and set your sights on Ally Outdoors for indoor shooting practice.

Enjoy some classic fun at Bowlero with 32 lanes of bowling, and take your game nights up a notch at Cinergy with some arcade action, escape rooms, and movie theatre!

For some outdoor fun on those warm West Texas days, visit Centennial Park in downtown Midland. There you'll find dog parks, kid's play areas, and a splash pad! For more kid-friendly fun, Dennis the Menace Park offers a unique playground and plenty of green space to run and play.

Historical Spots

Did you know George Bush's childhood home was located in Midland, Texas? You can visit this historical site which was once home to two presidents, two governors, a first lady, a CIA director, and more!

Take a journey through millions of years of history and Midland's Petroleum Museum. Here you'll find interactive exhibits and entertainment for all ages dedicated to the pioneers of the petroleum industry.

Other historical spots to visit include Sibley Nature Center, the Museum of the Southwest, and the I-20 Wildlife Preserve.

Day Trips

While there are plenty of fun activities to keep you busy within Midland city limits, there are also several great day trip locations just a few hours away! Monahans Sandhills State Park is a fun and unique experience for the whole family, located just under an hour from Midland. Rent sand disks at the park and surf the sand dunes, or explore on foot.

A second great day trip location is Marfa, Texas. It's a three-hour drive from Midland and is known for its unique art and photo-worthy backdrops! Guadalupe Mountains National Park is another location three hours from Midland, offering scenic views and a variety of hiking trails.

Enjoy even more hiking and history at Fort Davis National Historic Site, just two and a half hours from Midland. Learn about the significance of this pre-Civil War post, hike four miles of country trails, and for the kids, there's even a Junior Ranger Program with a scavenger hunt around the park!
